Verbal Defense and Influence Basic Course
Maryland Police & Correctional Training Center
6852 4th St,
Sykesville, MD 21784
8:00 am - 4:00 pm
This One Day basic course provides a summary of all Verbal Defense & Influence concepts and tactics. The course teaches participants how to use verbal tactics we refer to as “the fundamentals in human interaction.”
Dr. George Thompson, creator of Verbal Judo, a method of communication that forms the foundation of this training system, stated that “verbal abuse is the worst abuse in America.”
The first section of the class is entitled, Professionalism: Reframing the Image from Police Officer to Peace Warrior.
In order to uphold the true spirit of the law, law enforcement professionals must position themselves as those who ensure the respect & dignity of others. We will examine what is necessary for this philosophical mindset to take hold and manifest itself in actions and words.
Next, skills related to Tactical Theory and Decoding the Survival Skills of Communication are taught. In order to take control of a situation verbally, an Officer must first understand the dynamics involved in getting a message across. Using Aristotle’s philosophy of how a listener perceives both the message and the speaker, participants will learn the mechanics of perception, transmission and reception…and how to use it to one’s advantage.
Also, Tactics in Practice: Turning Vision into Reality sums up how to use this elite vision of themselves, their vocation and their profession, participants are equipped to become Operatives through the use of specific and structured methods.
Ethical Interventions will be developed to help staff step in early when others are acting badly to keep everyone safe.
Every class is unique and once the content is introduced, we can discuss how the tactics will be specialized and applied within various fields.
